Animals dieing do to improper food?

Not saying it’s not possible, & no I don’t feed my animals any food that may have potential to kill them. I recall as a child I use to feed the dog all kinds of foods that they’re not suppose to have, chocolate, half a box of raisons, grapes, onions, strawberry(of coarse I didn’t know any better then) & nothing ever happened to them, they didn’t even get sick. Though you see claims on the internet, out of the hundreds & thousands of people I’ve met through my life I’ve known no one that has had an animal die do to feeding them improper food. So here’s the question, has anyone ever had an animal die do to feeding them improper food?(be honest please)

We had a mastiff come in to the hospital very sick because she ate a Cosco sixe container of raisins. Very bad for them. I want to say causes liver failuare. Our one doctor lost a dog due to this, so this case was very sentive to her. So we made the dog vomit and I could not believe the amount of raisains this dog ate, This dog would have died. So you are just better off not taken the chance. I agree I have given my dogs, nuts, grapes, raisins, before I knew any of this, and I had a dog growing up who ate a whole choc. cake, nothing happened. But just knowing that there could be dangers is enough for me to watch what my dog eats. Great Question.

I’ve always known that chocolate can kill a cat in a heartbeat… I’ve fed grapes in my life, usually just a couple (not all dogs even want them)…with no ill effects. The problem is, that if you have a dog who is sensitive to grapes, raisons, onions, it could die…or be very expensively sick…so it’s just easier to not give them grapes, raisons or onions…than risk it.

On the question of chocolate…the toxic level is based on the weight of the dog, and the amount of chocolate given… chocolate contains theobromine and that is toxic to dogs in sufficient quantities. Xanthines affect the nervous system, cardiovascular system and peripheral nerves. It has a diuretic effect as well. This xanthine compound is in the same family of caffeine, and theophylline…In cats, this compound can build up…they don’t sluff it off, like a dog does…
