Do you mean hen - with an E? A hen is a female chicken. Hens are the source of eggs that we eat for breakfast. A male chicken is called a rooster, or a co ck. If the male chicken is neutered, it is called a capon.

I don’t know where the name comes from, but they have a separate name from roosters, because capons cannot be used for breeding. They have had their balls cut off when they are young. It makes them less aggressive, and their meat is more tender and flavorful. Supposedly
