What happens when americans take the idea of a brittish show?

[the office for example] do they have to pay the original maker of the show, or do they just copy the name and idea and jokes and hope to get popular?

You know going from british to maerican audiences is a pretty common thing. Like the office, whose line is it anyways, even americas got talent. I think that the two companies have an agreement and one pays the other to show it in the other country

And It Is Againsts The Law! Ever Watch A Movie And It Said Something Like “This film is blah blah blah.” Well The Blah Blah Blah Says Not To Steal The Idea And Make It Yours. Same Thing With TV Shows….

i was wondering. they already stole alot more of our shows, like the office, top gear, and they even tried to copy the IT crowd, but they failed miserably.
