What can I expect from American schools?

I am from kazakhstan. And I’m going to move to los-angeles next year. But the problem is that I can’t find any sites where I could get all the information needed. I am not sure if I should go to college or to high school(I will graduate 9th grade in kazakhstan). I would like to attend acting school. I speak russian so it would be perfect if the school would have russian studens and russian lessons(I am not sure that russian lessons are possible in l.a.). Should I pass any exams to attend schools in l.a.? Do students wear uniform at colleges/schools? Which subjects do you have at school? It would be really amazing if you helped me.

Not true, the only lesson we can choose is an elective that’s if the school gives us an elective. Electives is your choice of any different class like Home Ec.,Wood Shop, etc. I think it depends on your credits. Drop me a Fun Mail and I’ll explain more,I have to get up,it’s 5:40am.

Answer #5

Actually, that’s for normal students,ASB,etc have more classes. High School Prep is where a student can do any work from a different class or homework that you didn’t do or finish the night before. That was the main class that passed me to the 11th grade.

Answer #6

I’ve heard that students in America choose their lessons themselves..is that true?

Answer #7

Answer #8

There are also arts and music requirements to graduate from high school, the school I substitute teach (in Pennsylvania) in has several different kinds of band, orchestra, guitar and piano classes, drama classes and clubs, art classes like drawing, painting, ceramics and photography. There are also business classes like accounting and computer classes. You can choose from a wide array of classes, but there is a fine arts requirement that you pick one, and most colleges require a language. Our school has German, Spanish and French. LA may have English as a second language, although your English seems to be just fine. If you just graduated 9th grade, you will have to go to high school unless you are a very advanced student. I seriously doubt you would pass a graduation test, especially with all the history and geography required. Best of luck!

Answer #10

The only schools you wear uniforms in are private schools and middle school, high school you dress according to the dress, code. At my school in Victorville,California we dress how we want but not too inappropriate. My school subjects in 10th grade were:

1.English 1A 2.Advanced PE (Physical Education) 3.High School Prep 4.Algebra 1A 5.Modern World History 6.Life Science/Biology

Los Angeles is a totally different district so if I were you when you move out there, read there rules carefully and don’t fall into the wrong crowd,I know this cause Los Angeles is where I grew up at. Need some more help, drop me a comment if your not listed as my friend.
