Al Gore for Vice President. Your thoughts?

What do you think about Al Gore being VP to whomever wins the Dem. race?

Answer #1

Gore had to distance himself from Clinton because of the Lewinsky scandals, but that was because the Bush campaign was using that and other things to attack the morality of the Clinton White House. It was clear to me that Gore was doing this when he picked Lieberman as his running mate. Lieberman? Come on. Might as well have picked John McCain.

I think Gore could have done more while in office, we’ve seen how much pull a VP can have even if it’s not obvious in public. But during the 2000 campaign Gore definately seemed to move to the right of where he was in 1992.

Answer #2

Semi…If that was the reason Gore distanced himself from Clinton, it was a pretty stupid one. Clinton’s approval ratings were still very high, regrdless of the lewinsky crap.

I know… Leiberman. I scratched my head about that one at the time. Although Lieberman really didn’t lose his mind and show his true neocon colors until after 9/11.

You can’t compare Cheney using Bush as a hand puppet with Gore and Clinton. Clinton was way to smart to be manipulated, and Gore (IMO) had to much integrity to operate like that.

Answer #3

I agree that Clinton did not veto enough republican legislation, but I don’t think Gore would have had much if any influence there, and he certainly was not going to publicaly criticize Clinton. In the end, Gore kind of rejected Clinton, and did not use him in the 2000 campaign. Many thought it was due to Monica, and the impeachment. I think it had more to do with his philosophical differences. If you listen to Gore, he is all for getting influence peddling out of DC. Have you ever read his Assault on Reason. It is an excellent book.

Answer #4

Definitely.

Answer #5

hmmm.

Answer #6

Al Gore, a republican? Sorry semi, never heard that one befroe. Do you mind elaborating?

Answer #7

Al Gore is an environmentally conscious Republican. That much was clear to me in the 2000 race. No he should not be VP

Answer #8

I don’t think there is the slightest chance Gore would be offered or take the VP slot.

Answer #9

Never thought about it, I dont think he should, he’s doing a lot more good out of office…

Answer #10

Sure.

Despite what his positions are, Gore does very little of what he says he’ll do. His crusades for the environment and liberal causes picked up a lot more steam after his loss in 2000. While actually in office, in a position of power to change things, Gore did very little for any liberal causes, or make any attempt to get Clinton to veto Republican legislation. Clinton and Gore did more for the Republican agenda than either Bush, Sr. or Bob Dole ever would have done.

Sure, Gore may not have done some of the things Bush, Jr. has done, had he been elected. But you pointed out a few days ago that the political system is hijacked by corporate lobbyists. Gore is no exception to that. He is not the answer to our problems.

Answer #11

I could see it as very frustrating for Gore. He’s already been VP, he would have rightfully been president if the 2000 in a fair race. Being VP again seems beneath him at this point.

I suppose if he served as VP now it would groom him for another run at the presidency in 2016 but by then he would be 68 which is a bit old.
