while driving my 2002 1.6 petrol toyota avensis yesterday morning the engine management light came on while accelarating and the car starting to chug but didnt lose power. stopped the car turned it off waited for a mate who to come up to me then started the car back up and the light was gone everything was ok drove about 40 miles and it started to chug while accelarating again and engine light came on for a while and went off again i only have the car 2 months and it has been serviced reguarly before i got it. it has 175,000 miles on it but still runs very smooth nearly like new oil level is ok and a golden colour it doesnt chug the whole time and its not over heating and all water levels are ok also while in traffic in netral the revs are dropping a small amount then back up again any idea what it could be causing it to chug dont want to spend a lot before christmas if its not to hard to fix i could do it myself i can do a good bit with cars my last car i worked on it a lot.
