Actually, position does change the odds of having a boy or girl slightly. Positions that only allow shallow penetration (e.g. missionary) favor girls while those that allow deeper penetration (doggie) favor boys. The odds only change a few percent though.

Timing has much more to do with it. The XY sperm that produce boys are faster swimmers but do not survive as long.as the XX sperm that produce girls. XY sperm are more likely to beat YY sperm to the ovum when a couple has coitus close to ovulation while YY sperm are more likely to survive long enough to fertiize the ovum if the couple has coitus a few days before ovulation.
