itchy dog

my dog is a 5 year old golden retriever. she eats the natures variety venison and millet dog food and itches constantly. she does not have a single flea or tickon her. I have tried every shampoo know to man and nothing seems to help. I believe that she has allergies, hence the venison dog food. im at my witts end. help!!!

if you bathe your dog more than once every two weeks it will dry her skin out really bad. she probablly has dandruff. don’t bathe her for a while. and when you do bathe her (maybe once a month) make sure you get every bit of the shampoo off.

Try getting some Omega 3’s and 6’s in her via Fish Oil caps (you can get them at Walmart…they are very inexpensive…try 500 mgs to start)…they promote skin and coat health.

My dog was on every single high quality kibble and still itched like crazy, until I took him off ALL grain…He’s been on a no-grain kibble for a year, and the itching has gone (took a month or so), but he’s itch free now.

take her to the vet. It could be food allergies but have you noticed if it is only a certian time of the year. Just because you feed her Natures Variety does not mean that there is not corn or wheat in there that she may be allergic to. If you really want to do a food trail you need to take away all treats and start her out on a bland diet, or try Hypoallerginc Science diet, or just boiled Rice and buger. if she gets better then you slowly introduce new things to her diet and see what triggers it. A vet can help advise you on this, or you can have allergy test done on the dog.

There are specially formulated, medicated, products (shampoos, creams, etc.) you can get at pet stores for dry skin. This might help.
