Why do I always get a bad feeling about mourmons/mourmonism?

Over the past few years my fella has been going to the true church of jesus christ of latter day saints otherwise knows as mormourns. I must say he hasnt been now for over 6 months and its felt like a weights been lifted off my shoulders. I dont know why but when I see his study books around the house I instantly get agitated and have a bad feeling?? The missionaries also used to come round to our flat one evening a week and I dreaded them coming with a passion, and id be in a fowl mood all day before they arrived and when they did knock the door I used to hide/go into my room as I didnt want to participate in their study.anyone got any ideas please, I dont follow any specific religion but I do talk to god constantly throughout the day and thank him and pray for his help with problems I face in the name of his son jesus christ.I think maybe I feel the mourmon religion is too strict/heavy? Even if it is the truth? Anyone got any thoughts on this please?xx

First off, it’s “Mormon”, the derogatory nickname given to LDS members in the mid-1800s. This is derived from the “Book of Mormon”, which is not a person we worship, merely one of the prophets who we believe wrote in the book, and abridged a number of records into the format it is now, which after it was translated, was called the Book of Mormon.

I don’t know why you get a bad feeling. I will admit, sometimes the missionaries stay for quite a while(2 hours is pushing it), but I have yet to meet any that are undesirable to be around. As for strict…what household are you looking at? While we preach abstinence till marriage and that you take care of your body, the actual church is not horribly strict aside from these points. So what if we don’t want our siblings and kids killing off half their brain cells with drugs and alcohol, or destroying their lungs with tobacco, or becoming addicted to certain substances( contrary to what some overly-orthodox members will tell you, sodas aren’t no-nos. Coffee and certain kinds of tea only because of their extreme amounts of caffeine, an amount that can cause addiction easily, and oils that have been found to slowly damage one’s digestive tract), or getting pregnant and passing around STDs. Most of these are actually common sense that the world has lost over the centuries.

Besides the laws of wisdom(substance abuse) and the law of chastity(sex and self-pleasure), I don’t see much that they ask of an individual. Not doing these things won’t kill you, and have actually been proven to prolong your life. Well, sex is great and all, but I say wait till marriage because you truly don’t understand the emotional part of it till you’ve experienced it, and how much messing around with that stuff whether personally or mutually effects your ability on the emotional side.

And why hasn’t he been active for the past 6 months? Have you discouraged him? Because if you have in any fashion, that’s fairly selfish of you. It’s not a bad way to live, and even the worst off of members like myself still strive to live it, just because we know the happiness it can bring when lived in fullness.

and anyway, something for you to think about?! if god is love then why do mourmons go to war and kill for their country?jehovahs witnesses dont? and in my view and that of my friends and family, god does not expext 10% of our weekly income!! yes its good to make a donation but that should be voluntary not compulsary,as long as were charitable and donate to good courses he will know about it.god just wants us to be kind to all of his children, the environment and the animals he has blessed us with.and anway the book of mormon does nothing other that instill fear in me and portrays god as a frightening god not a loving god.yes,I know we are supposed to fear god in a positive way to make us become more like him and Jesus and to make positive changes in our lives but if we fear him overwhelmingly then dont we run the risk of not wanting to get close to him? id prefer to stick to the king james bible thanks. and yes I feel the missionaries are very rude imposing on us for up to 2 hours at a time, especially in the evenings during family time and after a hard days work when all we should be doing is relaxing not having the book of mormon shoved down our throats and forced on us.and why cant they be themselves and wear there own comfortable clothes instead of looking like the men in black for all my neighbours to see,im not ashamed that they come round but people talk, make opinions and judge you in a small built up estate where I live. and in the book of mormorn it says something on the lines of “should you revert back to your old ways/faulter after being baptized it would have been better that ude not been born??!!! nice!! were all born sinners because of adam and ever and are bound to faulter its natural and different circumstances can effect us in different ways, I know a guy who was baptized as a morourn, faultered and committed suice because he cudnt handle it. mormonism is brainwashing and a cult in my honest opinion.

I dont really know much about that religion but I think you should just let him do what he wants (within reason haha) but he needs to get this out of his system and you should support him. maybe talk to him about it, find out why he follows this religion and get a deeper insight as to why he has chosen this.

it will help you if you understand all he knows.
