their hair is thin and gets tangled so easily... if you're going to have it long haired you're going to have to deal with the daily brushes... but if you dont mind that well they look absolutely adorable with long hair...
it's spelt maltese. I have one that is almost 2 years old. we have her shaved so she barely has any hair. we leave it long on the tail and on the ears but we have her face and body shaved so we can see her face. it's much much easier if they have short hair.
It all depends on how much time you have to groom her...It's an everyday thing, if you let it grow...Maltese mat very easily.

That would be my answer, how much time are you going to spend grooming her? How much time will she be spending outside? What is more comfortable for your dog? Is it really hot where you live? Many factors to consider
Wait until your pup is done with all their shots before you send them to the groomers. It is going to take some time for your pup to adjust to being cut and shaved. I have two maltese, a girl who is 2 years old and a 1 year old boy. I noticed my girl has thicker hair than my boy (because my boy was practically malnourished when I got him from his previous owner) anyway, my girl actually loves having short hair but I leave her tail and ears long. My boy on the other hand has a good 3 to 4 inches on him and he seems to like it becuase his hair is thin and I think during winter he could use that extra "blanket". You'll find out which length suits both you and your dog in time.
Good Luck!
One more thing, the only downfall with having a long coat on your maltese is that you have to constantly clean the bottom of their coat after they go potty. Sometimes their aim isn't great. =) Just thought you should know. I actually trimmed the bottom of his hair underneath his belly for sanitary reasons.

What should I do with our maltese?
