What are coversation starters for people you just met?

I think I’ve overcomed the fear of walking up to sumone im interested and talking to them, but there is just one problem, I don’t know what to say! I mean, I should ask questions and act like im curious, but what kind of questions. I thought about asking them about music and video gaming but that’ll sounds weird right out of the blue “hi there, im so and so, wats your name?” “so and so” “oh thats real interesting, soo what kind of music do you like?”, no way -_- that sounded obnoxious and coming off to strong. I wanna know what to say when its the first time meeting sumone, what first words should you tell them, what questions should you ask and how do you trail off into them, and so on… (OH!, and the person is also of the opposite gender, im a girl btw xP)
