Why can't I sleep?

I’m extremely tired but I can’t sleep. My dad told me to close my eyes and I”ll fall asleep. But I’ve been laying in bed for the past hour or so with my eyes closed trying to sleep. Ugh. It’s been like this for almost 2 weeks. I’m tired all day and all night but I just can’t sleep. It’s getting to the point where I start crying about it because I just want to sleep. I don’t get to sleep until almost 5:30 in the morning. It’s been fine because I’ve been on vacation but school starts again tomorrow. I have to wake up at 6. This means either no sleep or very little.

What could be wrong and how can I get myself to sleep? Also, any tips for staying awake during school after a night of no sleep?

(By the way. I’m not sure if this is in the right section or not.)

Sorry if I posted this twice, it didn’t show up the last time I asked it.

I appreciate your advice optex, but I’m probably going to the doctor anyway. She can tell me if I have a sleeping disorder or something.

I didn’t sleep at all last night. I was extremely tired but I couldn’t sleep, no matter what. A therapist can’t help with that. All they’ll do is tell me how crazy I am.

You said, “you won’t go work on your land, you’ll go to walmart and buy stuff. You want to go somewhere - you take your car, no need to walk.” Why do we do this? Because not everyone can work the land for food. I have a friggin’ small yard, you can’t do anything with that. And I take a vehicle because not everything is in walking distance. If I had to walk to school instead of taking the bus, It’d take me 45 minutes to get there. I know that for a fact. I’ve walked home before.

I’d rather have a pill that’s going to put me to sleep instead of having night after night of no sleep. Did you know that if you don’t sleep for long enough, you’ll die? Yeah. It’s true. I’m not going to die instead of going to the doctor.

I don’t know what you do when something’s wrong but when I have problems with health issues.. I go to a doctor who can run tests and help fix the problem. I don’t schedule an appointment with someone who can’t do anything. Maybe you don’t believe in going to the doctor, but I do.

Anyway.. thanks for the advice. I just thought I’d make a few points, though.

Don’t go to the doctor. People nowadays are used to getting everything they want with a simple click or a phonecall. Just think about it : you won’t go work on your land, you’ll go to walmart and buy stuff. You want to go somewhere - you take your car, no need to walk. Same thing with psychological stuff - people think that one pill will fix everything. You should get used to this. I’m having trouble falling asleep too - I had big issues some time ago. Now, I simply go to bed and think about nothing. Don’t think about falling asleep or when will you fall asleep or how will you fall asleep. Try Sleepy Time Tea, turn off your computer and electronics in your room. Exercise regulary, even if you feel dead tired (this will only b in the beginning). Avoid caffeine and CoCa Cola or Redbull (anything that has caffeine) 6 hours before bedtime. I do not suggest you to go to the doctor. Maybe go to a shrink. I’m serious, these people tell you what’s wrong. But sleeping pills do nothing good - they don’t fix the problem, they just mask it. So cheers up ! Everything’s going to b fine. No matter what worries you, try to put it aside.

Actually, focusing too much on sleep could case you to lose it. Also, if something’s stressing you out, or if you’re focused really hard on pretty much anything, you can lose sleep that way. I once heard that some basic excersizes not long at all before you go too bed could help you go to sleep easier and quicker, but I’m not sure… It may be worth a shot, though.

The thing about the land was hypothetical, I did not mean to insult anyone. I’m only trying to help here. The problems of sleeping pills is that they are addictive - and believe me I have friends who take some. Somtimes they get pretty * up, if you know what I mean. Go to the doctor and ask him what you have - it might be a problem other than psychological. The important thing to realize is that you have to set your mind free before going to bed. I don’t know what’s going through your head when you go to bed, but the more you want it the less sleep you will get. By the way, you can die from no sleep, but your body will lose consciousness and fall asleep for some time : nobody will be able to wake you up. Be brave and good luck !

I don’t really focus on sleep. I use my head as a radio basically. I love music so I can think of a song and it “plays” in my head.

Stress? I haven’t been stressed too much lately. It’s been nice.

It’s currently 1:58 AM here. I have to wake up at 6. I only came on the computer for a minute to check this. My computer was set to sleep mode and my cat turned it back on by jumping on the keyboard.

“Did you know that if you don’t sleep for long enough, you’ll die?”

What this means is if you go long enough without sleeping you’ll die.
