Do you sit or stand to work at your computer?
I’ve sat at my computer for 30 years - until 2 weeks ago when I read that standing at a computer, especially for those who spend (too) many hours a week in front of the screen, can be both healthier and more productive. For example, it is easier to take more frequent short breaks away from the computer if you are standing and you are less likely to slouch.
There is a growing market for standing height desks so the idea is catching on and the logic appealed to me to I decided to give it a go. I do have an ergonomic desk chair which I bought as I have fibromyalgia and need extra support. It did help and was an improvement on a regular desk chair. But the switch from my ergonomic desk chair to standing has been even more marked. A much greater improvement.
I do not yet have a desk designed for standing work - but have adapted what I do have to raise my screen to eye level and my keyboard and mouse to a comfortable height. I have definitely noticed an increased productivity (I write all day, or proof read and edit for other writers) and my spine and hips have felt better at the end of a working day.
I do need to raise my feet in the evening after standing for so long - but that’s no hardship so long as i have a good book in one hand and a glass of Chardonnay in the other.
I sit down! :D K I will try to stand
I sit, but I can see the benefits of standing.
I don’t think I could stand all day, but maybe have a workspace at the correct height and a barstool. This way I could alternate between sitting and standing.
I am always standing, always on the move :-)
I am standing all the time, I would love to sit!
Sit, or laying haha, I’m quite lazy.
I have to stand at work all day, so…I come home and sit for the rest of the night :O
i’m always walking and standing at work so when i reach home i’ll be sleeping in my bed and under my blankets while in the comp.
when its serious work at a computer that requires me to stare at it for hours continuous. i try to take breaks and focus my eyes far away and read stuff that r far away i read this helps ur eyes.
at my work i sit and do. but some time i need to stretch my body. so i stand. it depends on how you are comfortable with
Well, 2 weeks since I asked this question and I can honestly say that I am more productive when I work standing up. I find that I take breaks more frequently - but for shorter periods of time - and this in itself is very refreshing.
My feet ached a bit at first - but as I found myself achieving more work in less time I could finish work sooner and put my feet up!
