Should I quit riding horses?

Asked by cheyenne7 2 months ago, 11 answers.

well I don't know what to do . I love horses and I've been riding for a year now . The sad thing is my riding instructor is always criticizing me and it really hurts. My older cousin rides with me and no doubt she is a good rider and my riding instructor is always telling me to watch her. If he thinks she is so great why does he make me ride the lead horse ,why when her horse gives trouble I have to walk alongside her . I think it is best that I quit being an Equestrian. What should I do?

Work your hardest and when you feel your doing brilliantly then if he say 2 watch your because ...go like this ""do you not think im gd because I though I was getting good ...I've been trying my best " then put on a sad face

because that will make him feel mega guilty

You can just ignore your instructor or, if it's possible, try to find a new one. One thing you shouldn't do is quit something you love.

thats how I kinda am..like I USED to like riding horses, but my stepmom got me these UGLY riding boots, and I cant fir them..at the boot store, I tried to tell her that I wanted diff ones and a bigger size, but her and the saleslady kept on saying 'oh these ones are gorgeous!' and 'I love these ones, yu should get these ones!!'.. until later on, when we went riding, I didnt have my boots on, and she freaked out, saying 'wheres your boots??!!' and im like 'they dont fit' she keeps on asking why I didnt say nething at the store, going on and on about how expensive they were...then my dad joins in, making it more horrible..gee. that was like 2 months ago..I havent beeen riding since...but it wasnt that much fun, with my stepmom yelling at you the whole time.. funmail me about what you think about this...

Don't quit something you love. Horse Riding is great! I don't get to do Horse Riding do you should consider yourself lucky! If your instructor is always telling you to watch your cousin just watch your cousin. He/She is probably just comparing that's why, thats what I think, because seriously everyone learns at their own pace you know. So Don't quit riding horses. Because even though your intructor thinks your bad, or is comparing just ignore her/him. Or you can get a different instructor if its that bad. I hope this helps!

Ditto to yunie... I've taught riding, so don't quit because of critisim...an instructor's job is to make you the best of your ability...If you aren't "getting" what the teacher is saying, then maybe watch your cousin and simply "do what she does"...copy it...

Here is the gist...the bottom line of riding...BALANCE...Not everybody's ability to balance is the same. When I have someone who's "balance" isn't as developed, I send them home with a beginner's yoga book...You can enhance your own balance...REALLY!!

Once you've got your "balance", everything else that goes along with riding will begin to fall into place...because you don't have to use your concentration just to stay up on the horses back.

I dont think you should quit what you love. what I would to is simply find a new instructor. I almost quit riding at one point because the girl I was riding with told me I was really bad all the time and told me id never be good. I just stopped riding with her. I then began to drive and show horses... and when I went to competition.. she was there. AND I did better than her because I believed in myself and stopped riding with her because it was a negative experience that gave me a bad outlook on my ability to ride. also, remember that your cousin may not be as good as she seems but you simply see her as better because your instructor always praises her. another option is, if you can't find another instructor, see if you could start taking lessons by yourself so your instructor won't be able to compare you to your cousin.
