They are both styles really--
'Emo' people are more like sad and emotional, you probley wont ever see them smile. 'Scene' is more like a "different, unique" type style. The girls like their crazy & big hair. A lot of people seem to say most 'emos' self harm themselves, not so much the scene kids. Scene kids just want to be different then everyone else, like style wise. You'll see a lot of Hello Kitty and random things like that in the scene style. 'Emo' is all like dark and what not. A lot of scene girls have like different crazy colours all in their hair, and change their bright hair colours all the time - most have extensions. Most 'Emos' just have black hair. As for music, most 'Emos' listen to like screaming stuff, you'll see a lot of band shirts and backpacks covered in band stickers and stuff. I don't know about "scene" music really because its a basic style. When it comes to 'Emo' you'll see a lot of like wrist bands, skulls, etc. Most "Scene" kids are trying to make an impression and people to notice them, but 'Emo' kids don't care what people think of them at all.
Really the main differences are: Scene is more physical, and Emo is more emotional. Scene is colourful and crazy, Emo is dark and usually depressing.
As a dress style, I've kinda distinguished scene kids as 'emos who wear colour'. I'm probably totally wrong, but that's probably because I'm from the generation that had goths- none of this emo/scene stuff!
