Anyone have a pitbull?

I want to get a pitbull puppy, and give it a loving caring home. Does anybody out there have one, or has had one? can you give me the positive and negative aspects of this breed? I dont want anybody on here that doesnt have one having a fit about them because you dont even know them.

I don’t have one, but I will, the second I move out of Miami- Dade County (there’s a stupid ban on the breed here because people raise them to fight. People should be banned, in my opinion, not the pits!)

I work at a shelter where we get pits once in awhile, usually abandoned. They are always with us for awhile until someone from out of Miami adopts them, so I interact with them a LOT. Out of the 3 we’ve had this year, all of them have been some of the most beautiful, sweet dogs I know.

Of course, they are very strong by nature, so if trained to do harm to people or other dogs, they will. But I’ve seen little Shih Tzus and Yorkies act more aggressive than most pits :) They have a bad rep for no reason, really. Just for being smart and strong and loyal (doing what their owners train them to do).

So my 2 cents: Get one :) Try http://www.petfinder.com. You can search for adoptable dogs and puppies in your area, by breed. You’ll surely find a pit pup near you.

I do and she is adorable!! I have a blue pit and she is already 3! I will give you the positive first… 1. they are really cute andcan really be nice. everyone might think that they are really mean but you have to train it well. when you train it and you dont want it to do a certain thing that is really bad, you have to hit them near the butt and yell at them and tell them no. if you dont do this at an early age, she or he will grow up and learn not to be nice to you, for example, if you dont train pits when they are puppys then when they get older and they do something wrong and you tell them no, they will do something about it and turn there back on you and attack you and wont let go. the best thing to do for your new pit is to teach it to beloving and caring to everyone, teach from whats good and whats bad and you will have a very happy home. also hang and chill with them as often as you could because when they get older, again, they need attention because they will get very crancky when there older and will attack if you dont treat them the way they should be treated… hope that was enough for ya.

I suggest that you dont forget to feed it because you may be missing animals if you dont trust me I have one it is just about to kill one of my other dogs.

First…I don’t suggest you “hit” any dog…but especially terriers, as they are the most likely to “defend” themselves…A Pit should be sweet and friendly to people, and if socialized young, can get along with other dogs. They have a high prey drive, so I suggest you keep the rabbits in cages…and be very watchful over small dogs and cats…at least until your Pit “understands” who is a part of HIS pack.

I had a Rottie cross who was a “certified cat killer”…but with direction from us, learned that OUR CAT was her cat…and she never laid a tooth on him…cats outside the “pack”, however, were fair game in her eyes…

Keep in mind, too…that Pits are high energy, and a good motto for you, would be; “A tired dog, is a good dog”…make sure he gets plenty of exercise, and keep his mind busy learning obedience, tricks, etc…
