how to coach kids raising a pet. a goldfish in this case. I want to make sure they are not dissapointed if it dies.

I would just explain to them how delicate of a life a fish has compared to a human. And explain that fish don’t live very long. There really isn’t a way to make them not dissapointed when it dies, that’s part of growing up.
