How to be responsible?

How do you be responsible and how do you know if you are responsible?
I am going to be a junior and I have to choose a college and I want too learn how to be an adult and learn how to be on my own when the time comes but I am afraid and my mum always tells me I have to be responsible but I don't know if I am or not..can anyone help?

Responsible examples: - doing work on-time without being told - saying you'll call at 10pm and you do - bottom line: being trustworthy - no one has to go behind you to ensure it was done, etc.

get a job & or get an animal. if you can handle that then your doing pretty good

Okay say you are in high school and you are getting ready to choose a college but you got to prepare on how to leave your parents when you are ready.
How do I convince my parents that I am responisble.
