My ferret is a Marshall Farm ferret and he is about 4 years old now. I have NEVER had a single health problem with him at all; not a one. I have heard that hte Path Valley ferrets have a LOT of health problems including being blind and deaf. The petstore I got him from, they too had to order my boy and I did get to pick out the color & sex. He was terrified the day I picked him up but then he spent a LOT of time in a truck being delivered. He is the sweetest guy I’ve ever known (I had a ferret as a teen) and absolutely LOVES all of our dogs, cats and kids. He only tried biting as a kit when we first got him and hasn’t bitten at all since about 6 months; and when he did, it was not a harsh bit. More of a playful one. I too would recomend a shelter though as there are a LOT of homeless ferrets out there these days. You can look on Petfinder.com to find one. Of all our pets (3 dogs, 2 cats & fish) he is the best one of the batch!!

Check with the local pet stores. I bought my Marshall farm ferret from mine. He had to order it for me. You can pick color and sex when they order it for you.

I would NOT recommend purchasing a Marshall Farms ferret. I have had 3 ferrets, all Marshall farms, and only one have I bought - one was given to me and the other two were shelter adoptees. Marshall Farms ferrets, in my experience, are sweet creatures BUT have a host of medical problems generally beginning at middle age. My first ferret I recently had put to sleep because she developed adrenal disease and her vets did not give me good advice. Now, one of the ferrets I recently adopted has been diagnosed with insulinoma and both of the adoptees may have IBS/IBD.

So, I say DO NOT get a Marshall Farms ferret.

Look on craigslist for people trying to get rid of their ferrets, or check and see if there is a local ferret shelter or ferret breeder.
