Do you need a license to breed dogs?

I was talking to my friends & we started talking about animals & stuff ( I dunno how it came up but anyway) My friend says you need a license to breed I’ve heard this quite a lot I though you only needed a license to breed if you have more then 3 females breeding or something but Do you really need a license to breed dogs? If Yes why & what states? etc.

Well I think they are getting the city, county, and AKC rules mixed up. Than you have the USDA in there also.

It gets complicated. What do you have?

If you are breeding just your female with a male. You don’t need a license. If you are going into business, that is totally different story.

Ditto the above…it doesn’t go by state…it will be a county law…You can probably even look up your county on the internet, and find out about breeding licenses.

I understand that it is different from one part of the world to the next. Probably the fastest way to get an answer is to look in your telephone book and locate a local pet or animal hospital. Give them a call and ask them. They should be more in touch with what is appropriate for your area than the world at large is.
