Toady......I give my dog's NuVet Plus supplements.....you can only get it on the web from the manufacturers. It's a natural product.....I didn't really know if it was doing my dogs any good or not.....like how do you know? That is until, I took my 14 y/o Westie off of it, in order to feed her dry Evo (the powdered form wouldn't stick)....Within two weeks, she developed a little cough (from an enlarged heart), a sterile abcess from what I don't know......After a $375 vet visit, with the Vet talking about Cushing's disease, I got her the tablets, and within the next 2 weeks.....the cough was gone, we've had no more skin issues, and she's pretty darn spry for her age. I've had MoJo (my 4 y/o German Shepherd on it since he was 3 months)......I've come to really believe in this stuff.....If you Google it, you'll see that there are thousands of kennels who promote the product, too....

I use an enzyme product (if I was at home, I could tell you what the name of it is)......it must work, because it did eliminate the oder when Dave the Cat was sick, and had peed down the heat vent. Theo's problem is just that he's so old, he forgets.....(I've witnessed Molly 'forget' now and again, too....just like 'where am I?').....

I thought I was going to have to make the belly band, but found one at Tailwaggers, so I'll put it on him tonite, and see how it goes (today when I was measuring his little waist, he acted like I was killing him........silly dog). I wanted to get two....one to wash, and one for wear.....but they only had one. If he won't wear it, I guess I saved $17.00 on not having two he won't wear....LOL

Front page news in this morning's newspaper......a local retired Gynocologist was charged with felony animal abuse for drowning 1 day old puppies.....He didn't know it was against the law.....I'm a little mixed about the felony charge, and it's not surprising that he didn't think about it being against the law, considering that it's been less than one year, that the County Dog Pound quit putting adult dogs in a decompression champer and sucking the life out of them. Don't know if they'll use him for an 'example'.....or if his lawyer will get it busted down to a misdemenor. He's 74 years old....we shall see.

That's about it, for this day.

hi all. I have been lurking around for a little bit so I thought I'd introduce myself.

I am 30, single, and will graduate from nursing school in december. I have 2 dogs shady (beagle/black dog mix --9yrs) and pygmy (chihuahua - 6mos).

I have a question about joint supplements... what do you guys recommend.? I am currently giving her some crap that I got at petsmart. Nutri-Vet Hip & Joint. I haven't been using it long so I am not sure yet if it is working or not. Poor shady is getting a little creaky and I want to make sure she stays comfortable.

thanks! and nice to meet all of you.

Learned this from a old carpet cleaner. Clean the urine spot and then before it dries, pour table salt all over it. Covering it is the key. The salt neutralizes the acid in the urine and eliminates the odor. I tried it with a rescue dog and he quit going to the same place while I was trying to house train him.

I used a doggie diaper on Mila when we first got her. She had a raging UTI and would pee every few seconds. We got one of those doggy diapers and put menstrual pads in it. it worked! here's a photo.

Sigh she looks so must healthier now, if I do say so myself

Phrannie I never have. I don't see what it would hurt to try it. Can you use it on a female? Don't care what Cesar says I really believe Theo is planting that for Greg to step in. Hehehehe

Like I said I haven't any real knowledge of Cesar, I am only half way through my first book of his.

Hugs got so much to do with the pups today.

Phrannie do you know anyone that has tried a a belly band? I know you have to wash the peepee spot so good and get all the smell out UGH! Every single time! I mean I wash the spot don't get me wrong but how do you know you are getting the smell all out????

Oh.....I forgot......Andre....do you ever use belly bands on your rescues? I've got little old Theo.....and he simply cannot hold his pee....plus he dribbles. At 17, I sure don't hold it against him, but since he's going to be here for 2 weeks, it'd driving Greg up the wall (he gets up earlier, and seems to step in it every morning)......He used to be crated at night, but now he sleeps with my sister.....I tried to put him in the crate, and there is NO WAY he's ever going back to crating (at least without a few nights of no sleep).......I'm just thinking that maybe a belly band at night would keep the peace around here.

Cute CUTE pics, Dara.....

Andre....I'm wondering if that little BT girl, sees you as a 'possession'....peeing is marking territory, and feet (to a dog) provide the most scent......She loves your hubby, but you belong to HER......I don't know what you can do about that, really, but keep your houseshoes up, and her away from your feet.

The little sheltie, I think.....just needs more time on the leash.....when she's in the house....she's marking, also (dogs do save some for later.....just in case .....a month is not very long with a rescue.....You can pretty much count on this time table...give or take, of course, depending on the dog......It takes about 15 days to instill a good habit onto a blank slate (puppy)......it takes at least 30 days to break a bad habit and instill a good habit onto an already 'used' slate (older dog with an established habit)......everytime she manages to 'go inside'.....that keeps the established habit ingrained. Course, if caught right in the act, or immediately BEFORE, a little heart to heart talk, face to face.....and a trip right back outside, does wonders.....(Molly quit peeing inside totally, when I actually caught her, and we had a face to face)....but only at my house.....she'd still pee at my mom's.

Tho what dogs do, can truly appear to be human-like behavior, I really do believe it can be tracked back to doggie behavior......attention getting (when your man was recovering....good or bad, it still gets attention). If they really did suffer all the human emotions, they wouldn't be so easy to work with.....LOL......Like raising kids who can run 25 MPH.....that would be horrible....HA!

I'm soooo glad she's doing better. Did you find out what exactly it was?

Those pictures should be entered in a Dog magazine pictures contest! Those are really great pictures. Th lighting the shadows, the dogs! Perfect!

Hey Runt is doing pretty good. I have her off the bottle and just on puppy kibble now. I think she is doing well. The only thing is she has to lap her water not lick it of the bottle water feeder like the other puppies like. So I have to watch that.

Editor I already did. Look at the members list. She requested yesterday. I am still reading this book so maybe Cesar says something different on these dogs. Phrannie is the Cesar expert. This is my first book of his.

Tippy the slipper peeier. Loves my husband I mean she is sweet to me, but she really is in love with my husband, so I think the peeing in the slippers is, Tippy, telling me something???

Night Night Editor what are you still doing up?

Haha those crazy canines, always peeing in shoes when they shouldn't.

My dogs WILL purposefully poop inside if I p*ss them off. I know it. My terrier hasn't peed inside for over a year, and then peed inside when my boyfriend was recovering from a surgery and I baby gated her out of our bedroom. Right in front of me. But you got to love her. I took some cute photos, I'll post in a bit.

Oh also Andre, a friend of mine in real life, Toady, wants to join the group. I invited her, would you accept her if she requests? She's good with dogs

Hey there Cindy I knew that was you, when you requested to join. What gave it away was your choice of avatars. You always choose they most unusual avatars.

I wish I had the answer to end all answers on your friends dog and her urinating in the house. But I don't with my odd pack of dogs we have them too. Not on a consistent bases but they do. I am reading Cesar's Way right now. I am not done with it so I am not a expert on this book. But right now one of the things that comes to mind that Cesar is stressing is to remember that dogs live in the moment they do not plan revenge or plan the peepee in the house, they just do it.

I will say this about a poodle I have. No matter what I do this dog has to go on cement. I have pushed her off my patio (gently) rolled her off it. I have spayed her with water. I have been upset and dumped a glass of water on her pooping on the cement patio. But no matter what I do she will hold it and wait if she has to and sneak back and poop on the cement. Why!!! I got her out of a kennel and of course all she has ever been on her whole life before I got her was cement. Her kennel had cement floors. I don't know if Yancy will ever change?? I have read that poodles are rated among the smartest dogs and I know Yancy is not dumb, But she will not poop anywhere else, as long as she can help it.

Yancy adores me, I know she is not trying to upset me, she just has this thing that drives her to poop on the cement. Remember that old saying that what puppies are trained on is what they will continue to want to potty on?

I don't know your friend's dog's background but I would almost bet there is something going on with her background that is causing this behavior. I would just say time and patience and remember the dog is not doing it to be bad or get even or to scheme against the owner. There is something else deep rooted going on.

Snickers I am still praying for and thinking about. I did not call today and did not hear anything. I will call tomorrow if I do not hear anything. I am worried about him. I have thought about asking if I can drive up there and look for him. But I don't know if that would be a good idea or not. I have to run it past my husband it is about a 4 hour drive.

You all want a good laugh?? I have a Boston Terrier and she is the sweetest thing, loves me and I don't have stinky feet or anything but she will hike her leg, yeah SHE! will hike her leg and pee on my on my slippers!!! I never know when she will do it. SO I will forget to check my houseshoes (that I love dearly) and slip my feet in them and one of them will be wet. OH and get this it is always the left slipper!!! AND CESAR!! says they don't plan this stuff! Hummmm!! I am reading on!

That's what I was thinking. According to the foster mom, this never happened when with them. The dog seems well adjusted otherwise.
Thanks, I will call Cesar right away. lol
